Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Commentary by Max Einhorn

Sweeney Todd
Director Tim Burton and Stephen Sondheim have collaborated to make a very enjoyable film. The film has a miserable and tortured look to it, a gray London and a hope for anything at all is nowhere in site. Blood paints the rest of the film in all its beauty and sets the tone Burton was hoping for; this is a man who has been wronged and now it’s his turn to point the blade. The opening credit sequence, what one may have expected to be an exciting “Ballad of Sweeney Todd” prelude made famous by the stage musicals, has been exchanged for a moderately acceptable musical score….

Enchanted

Commentary by Max Einhorn

Enchanted
Adams was an outstanding choice for this film and her character portrays an adorable amount of confusion and curiosity in the strange world of New York City. She is pleased to see and talk to anyone, and certainly not afraid to portray the princess the animators had dreamed of. Adams also clearly derives her character from other Disney princesses such as Snow-White and Ariel from “The Little Mermaid…

While on a trip to visit Temple University in Philadelphia last Friday, I was invited to attend a special screening to view clips from “Bee Movie” by THA Publicity and DreamWorks Animation. Mr. Bean’s Holiday

Commentary by Max Einhorn

SuperbadMr. Bean’s Holiday is a wonderful little film filled with humor that anyone can enjoy. The character Mr. Bean appears to be a combination of the monkey Curious George and silent film legend Charlie Chaplin, and represents the child in all of us. The humor in Mr. Bean’s Holiday, since Bean’s first appearance in the original TV show that debuted in 1990…

Superbad

Commentary by Max Einhorn

SuperbadThe only way that a screenplay about high school life could be this accurate is if high school students wrote it themselves – and they did. Seth Rogen – who also plays one of the idiotic policeman – and Evan Goldberg were childhood friends that started writing the screenplay when they were 13 years old. The story and main characters are somewhat autobiographical to Rogen and Goldberg’s high school experience…

The Simpsons Movie

Commentary by Max Einhorn

The Simpsons MovieWith 18 seasons under creator Matt Groening’s belt, I am very impressed that they managed to come up with an epic story. The Simpsons have done everything in their 18 seasons and yet every new episode is always a creative surprise, while most other sitcoms are going in circles by their sixth year. The story is simple, yet big – so it’s a perfect fit. It really does feel like one big episode, except rather than sitting in your home, you have over a hundred other people laughing with you…
