Corpse Bride

Commentary by Max Einhorn

Tim Burton’s gloomy animated flick brings the dead party animals and the dead-at-heart living together into a fun musical. Johnny Depp voices as the shy and fearful protagonist who has a run in with the dead and ends up marrying a corpse. The film has a lot of color and music, but lacks a lot of real character development and leaves the end really open and a very big problem doesn’t seem solved. It is strong throughout, but the ending is oddly weak.

Rated PG for some scary images and action, and brief mild language. Running time 76 minutes.

The Aristocrats

Commentary by Max Einhorn

The Aristocrats, a joke so disgusting, so vulgar and crude you may just end up laughing at the punchline. The film consists of 100 comedians all telling the same joke, but improvising what the middle is. Making it the most disgusting and horrible things possible. The joke works like this, the more outrageous the middle is, the more ironic the punchline. The problem is, you are hearing most of the same things over and over, people breaking down the joke, giving the history, and then telling their own version. By the end you are tired of this, even with a running time of only 80 minutes.

Not Rated. Running Time 90 minutes (including the credits that has stuff in it too.)

The New World

Commentary by Max Einhorn

The New WorldLike Ang Lee, Terrence Malick, who last directed The Thine Red Line back in ‘98, is one of those directors who goes into hiding for a while, not directing any films, and then comes out of nowhere with gold. Though in his new film, that is exactly what some of the characters are searching for in the film[…]

Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room

Commentary by Max Einhorn

Enron: The Smartest Guys in The RoomThe interesting documentary about one of the biggest business scandals in history. I would have been much more interested if this played out like a docu-drama, this actually plays out like any WITF documentary. A couple of interviews and just off cuts and fades doesn’t exactly work as well as one may think it would. At 109 minutes it may not keep your attention, it being rated R makes no sense to me at all, I saw no point in the brief nudity.

Rated R for language and some nudity. Running time 109 minutes.

Munich

Commentary by Max Einhorn

Steven Spielberg’s new film could easily bait in the award for Best Director, and it has every right to brag. Munich is a hard-headed thriller that is both dark and colorful in many ways, including the outstanding acting and writing. Munich carries many familiar faces including Eric Bana and Daniel Craig, who […]

Hostel

Commentary by Max Einhorn

HostelExcutive producer Quentin Tarantino and director Eli Roth have created a film so horrible, so vile and unbelievable, you are already believe I’m giving this a good review, but I’m not. When I say it is so horrible, so vile and unbelievable, I am not explaining some of the film’s content, I’m speaking for[…]

Broken Flowers

Commentary by Max Einhorn

Broken Flowers is the dark themed comedy starring Bill Murray whose character recieves an anonymous letter from who he thinks is one of his old girlfriends, that he has a son, and who has run away from home to search for his father. Murray’s character travels around to his old girlfriends to find out who is the mother. I think I actually prefer Murray’s more serious toned roles than a lot of his old comedy roles. He gives an outstanding performance and in this film you really feel for his character. Rated R for language, some graphic nudity and brief durg use. Running time 106 minutes.
