Hairspray

Commentary by Max Einhorn

HairsprayDirector Adam Shankman has finally found his calling in musicals. Shankman’s previous filmography includes “The Pacifier,” “A Walk to Remember,” and “Cheaper by the Dozen 2.” It is obvious how his directing has improved. It is surprising, since Shankman is a choreographer, that he hasn’t churned out a musical before…

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Commentary by Max Einhorn

Harry Potter and the Order of the PhoenixNew director David Yates has excellent staging and control over his scenes, which were written by Michael Goldenberg. Goldenberg, unlike the previous screenwriter, includes all of the scenes that we were really hoping to see from the book. One of the most fantastic scenes has Dumbledore’s army, comprised of Harry and his friends, attempting to produce a patronus charm. Shapes of animals rush out of their wands prancing across the walls of the room…

Transformers

Commentary by Max Einhorn

TransformersThe transformers themselves are seamless in their CGI creation, but the action sequences are too tightly choreographed in their cinematography that you can’t tell what’s going on. It is entirely possible the CGI renderers are just making the robots roll back and forth on the ground to make it look like they are battling. Other times, when the robots are driving in their car forms, it’s too sleek and comes off as a car commercial. …

SiCKO

Commentary by Max Einhorn

SiCKOThough Moore takes many risks in this film, but the people he talks to and the horrors he uncovers is incredibly thought-provoking. It raises questions like: Why do thirty-six other countries have it so much better than us? Why are American hospitals dumping their patients on the streets because they can’t afford to pay their bill? My own dangerous question is: Why can’t a nation that has so much money afford to take care of its people…

1408

Commentary by Max Einhorn

1408Even though “1408” was lacking in story and detailed character information, this creepy thriller was a pleasant relief from the torture porn that has built up in Hollywood’s bowels.

Author Mike Enslin (John Cusack) searches the country for haunted hotels and creepy sights inhabited by the dead. His many stays have returned nothing paranormal. Scouting places to check into for his latest book, he stumbles across the legendary 1408 in the Dauphin Hotel, New York City. Gerald Olin (Samuel L. Jackson), the hotel manager…

Pirates of The Caribbean: At World’s End

Commentary by Max Einhorn

In the opening scene of Pirates of The Caribbean: At World’s End, there is a long line of pirates (and those who have affiliated with pirates) heading towards the gallows in Port Royal. A small boy about to be hanged begins singing (and humorously enough has braces) and gets the other pirates to join […]

Spider-man 3

Commentary by Max Einhorn

Sam Raimi’s third installment of the Spider-man franchise, in my opinion, stands by itself, not holding a similar structure to the two previous films. Spider-man and Spider-man 2’s composition seemed much more action based with an emotional story line built around it. With Spider-man 3 it appears to be just the opposite, the action […]
